Hi, while using vortex a remote peer could become unavailable in a way that the local peer won't recognize it immediately. Is this correct?

If, what is the best practice to handle time-outs than? In such a situation the next call to vortex that tries to exchange a message with the remote peer will fail (after the time-out value I think).

Most vortex functions return a NULL to indicate a fail. But how do I find out what the problem was? If it was a time-out and hence a reconnect could be tried.
