Hi Robert,
> Isn't it facing the same idea / goal but just doesn't use BEEP as its base?
Isn't it. 0mq is a different product than BEEP in many ways, they
address different application protocol problems so comparing them its
difficult (apple and oranges you know), even comparing it with other MQ
solution seems to be comparing apple with oranges too [1] as expressed
by people that has used 0mq.
Many features that may provide BEEP/Vortex could be seem as a drawback
for MQ people and viceversa.
For us, BEEP in general, and vortex in particular, is superior in the
sense:
- It has been really tested
- It is a standard.
- Its is general enough to be used as a foundation for any MQ solution
(including 0mq).
- It has extensible channels which allow mixing and maintaining
different protocols from different vendors and different versions.
- Built-in auth
- Built-in TLS
- It has a featureful and complete API....and it's really fast.
In the other hand it seems current 0mq implementation [2] is still
walking to fix some serious design issues (like the possibility to hang
for ever waiting for replies or its use of assert() which makes the
product not viable for a commercial grade solution IMHO).
In the case you want to use MQ solutions I would recommend to opt for
some of the AMPQ [3] open source implementations...because it standard
(in the sense there is a working group and there is a public spec).
Cheers!
